Texas BBQ.... in New York

Mr. Snoop and friends finished their 8 week surgery rotation last friday.  After a brutal exam, they were ready for some fun.  Our friends from Rhode Island had found a supposedly legitimate Texas barbecue place just north of us.  Naturally, I was skeptical.  But Mr. Snoop, being the self-appointed social chair of our group of friends (some frat boy behavior just doesn't go away), arranged a trip and we all headed up.

Y'all.

It was good.

No kidding.  I mean it wasn't Cooper's or Salt Lick, but it was good.  Definitely the real deal.

Yes, that is a Lone Star that you see.
What??

So if you happen to be a displaced Texan in New York like myself, get thee up to Cold Spring and get some Round Up barbecue.  Worth it.  They are building a pavilion this spring, so we'll definitely go back over the summer.

Because I'm a jerk, I brought this along:

Fortunately the proprietor (whose wife is from Denton), absolutely loved it.  He carried it off to show his wife.  And then I gave him a piece and he loved it even more.  But who doesn't love kahlua brownies?

And then Mr. Snoop played approximately 8745 hours of darts.  Like I said about the frat boy behavior.

So that was our weekend.

Plus this:

Stand off.  Which tail is fluffier?

Then I Went Crazy

So everyone has their own reactions to stress, right?  Some people eat, some people exercise, some people drink, whatever.  I organize.  Like a crazy person.  And that's what I did all the long weekend.  There is a family situation back in Tejas that is causing lots o' stress for me.  Naturally, since I can't control that particular situation, I have to control everything else around me.  Via organization.

Like my cabinets:

This bad boy is my erstwhile nemesis.  Tupperware above and vases / candleholders / candles / decorative dishes / paper napkins / party supplies below.

Are you loving the old school paper cabinet liner?  Don't judge me, we're renters.

Or my scrapbook:

That'd be Thanksgiving.  2010.  I am behind.

Also don't judge me because I scrapbook.  Controling my world, remember?

And finally, my coupons:

Yep. After a long resistance, I gave in. $20 at Staples later, I now have a coupon binder. In my defense, it is a) small and b) adorable.  Because I totally scrapbooked the cover.  I hear you snickering.

You can totally judge me now.  But it has made my life much easier.  And Mr. Snoop, lover of all things neat and tidy, adores it.

Off to obsessively clean things now...

Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday, Fat Tuesday... whatever you want to call it.

We won't be making it to any parades or throwing or receiving any beads, but we absolutely will be eating pancakes tonight!

I like to make fancy pancakes for Mardi Gras, and since we are having Keely and J over for the boys to take their last surgery quiz, I have an excuse to go extra crazy.  Here's what I'm thinking...

Blueberry-Cornmeal Pancakes

Or maybe...

Pumpkin Pancakes

Let's be real, I should totally do both!

Thank You, Pinterest

Anyone who follows me on Pinterest knows that I have a real problem.  But to be fair, I've also found some awesome ideas for work.  Like this one:

Since one of my programs at work relies on volunteers, I am always trying to find easy (and affordable) ways to thank all 45 of them.  Here's what my co-worker and I did:

I hope they like them, even if the amount of money on the card is a little bit tiny.  We sure had fun putting them together.

If you decide to do this for someone, I recommend hot-gluing the entire coffee sleeve onto the card.  Then you can just glue a dot at the bottom, in between the layers of the sleeve to create a pocket.  That way the gift card fits in perfectly.  Also, these are 5x7s and you can mail the whole creation with a regular 45¢ stamp.  Cute, right?

Now let's see if I will ever get around to making these fabric easter eggs I've been drooling over:

Probably not.

Howdy

Well... it sure has been a while!  Here's what the snoops have been up to, which is mainly an update on Mr. Snoop's experience with surgery.

- Mr. Snoop is busy vying for Husband of the Year award.  Last weekend he...

A) Chaperoned a middle school lock-in at St. John the Divine with me.  That's 100 middle schoolers for 19 hours.  We may or may not have recovered from 19 hours of middle school boy smell by now.  If you haven't been to St. John the Divine in the city, you should.  It is ENORMOUS.  We're talking the length of 2 football fields end to end.  Being from Texas, I measure everything in football fields.  Also, the Statue of Liberty would fit in there.  If you work with youth, Nightwatch at St. John's really is the bomb.com, even if you are exhausted and stinky afterwards.  Here's what the cathedral looks like:

Side note: chaperoning middle school lock-ins is totally worth putting on a med school resume, right?  Especially when one of said middle schoolers is convinced s/he's dying of a stomach ache some rare disease and Mr. Snoop talks them off the ledge, medically speaking?

B) Mr. Snoop cemented his spot as Husband of the Year when he and a friend took over the high school youth group for me on Sunday, since I had to set up for/attend the middle school play.

- I think I need a break from adolescents.  Love them, but really.

- I am loving the fact that the surgery rotation requires the use of scrubs 24/7.  The Vacation From Ironing rocks.

- Vacation From Ironing ends in a week and a half.  Mr. Snoop is in trauma surgery now and does family medecine next.

- Have I told you that Mr. Snoop has found a specialty within surgery that he really likes?  It involves this:

- On to figuring out away rotations.

- As a goodbye gift from surgery, Mr. Snoop has 24 hour call in the hospital this Saturday.  I'm trying to figure out how many ridiculously girly things I can fit into a day since he won't be around.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Brought to you by the color Pink

I'm not a big fan of the sentimental aspect of Valentine's Day because it makes me gag.   But I am a HUGE fan of the color pink and the excessive use of glitter and girliness and will use any excuse to bring more of those things into my life.  Therefore I love Valentine's!

This is what is currently hanging on my door:

My Valentine ribbon wreath.  Love.

And here are all sorts of glorious pink/valentines items that are inspiring me from pinterest...

Hyacinth... does anything smell better?  Pinned here.

Love this for the mantel.  Pinned here.

How marvelous are these?  Pinned here.

Strawberry heart oreos.  Yum.  Pinned here.

Last but not least, a little arts and crafts project:

Very do-able, right?  Pinned here.

Happy weekend, everyone!
