Weekend + Bad Cat

This past weekend, my cousin and his wife came into town.  It was super hot and even more humid, but we had a great time.  It was so nice to spend time with them.  Mr. Snoop said that they saw more of the city in two days than he had in three years.  He's not wrong.  We did everything!  You name it, we went there.  Even some new places for me: Top of the Rock and FAO Schwarz.  Both were awesome and must-sees.

Here I am at Top of the Rock.  Told you it was hot and humid.  Check out the pollution.  That's the freedom tower waaaay down to the right.

Here we are at Shake Shack (after the Natural History Museum).  So flipping good.  I love that place.  My mouth is watering just typing this.

On to more domestic issues.  Let's talk about Shammy Boy.  And what he did Monday night.  Mondays are my day off.  So I deep clean the house, do laundry, grocery shop, etc.  By the end of the day I am worn out.  This past Monday I was enjoying the Olympics and relaxing.  I was winding down for bed, brushing my teeth in the bathroom when I heard a gigantic crash.  Of course I immediately panicked.  Burglars?  Aliens?  Zombies?

No....

Just Shammy Boy.  Knocking over an orchid.  Onto my newly clean floors.  How it landed upright but exploded so much dirt everywhere, I will never know.  So I lugged the vacuum back up out of the basement.  And don't you know the bag was full.  Back down to the basement, got a new bag, and cleaned the orchid explosion.

And the culprit just laid there and gazed while I cleaned up his mess, smirking and doing his best attempt at an innocent and angelic face:

Look at my pink nose and pink ears... aren't I just precious?

Happy Easter!

The Snoops are in Texas to celebrate our risen Lord with cheese grits and egg casserole at church and excessive amounts of bbq and beer later on.  It's how we roll.

Meanwhile, please enjoy this giant picture of Woo with his favorite, the egg tree:

Amniotic fluid on his shoes

This past weekend, Mr. Snoop had his first 27 hour shift in Labor and Delivery.  He started at 6am on Saturday morning and finished up Sunday morning.  Since it was the day after 11/11/11, I figured lots of women would have been trying to get their labor started for an 11/11/11 baby and would overflow on to 11/12.  Plus it was also a full moon, and he was there overnight.  So you'd think, lots of deliveries, right?

Nada.

Mr. Snoop was most upset.  And tired.  I came home after work Sunday morning to this:

Yes, he was wearing my eye mask.  And yes, Woo was keeping him company.  Yes, Woo is a small bear, not a cat.

So Mr. Snoop had an overnight last night (6pm  - 6am).  He was really hoping for some delivery action.  When he came in at 6:30am, I asked him how it went.  All he said was "I got amniotic fluid all over my shoes.  I'll tell you about it later."  He's still slumbering, so I'll let y'all know what went down once I find out.

With all the talk of amniotic fluid, I'll leave you with a wondrous picture of Shammy Boy that I took over the weekend.  You might want to shield your eyes from the glory.  The butt and tail fluff on that guy is outrageous.

Next time we do Moses, I am totally telling the kids that this is what the Pillar of Cloud looked like.  Without the pink nose.

Randoms

- Mr. Snoop was gone for a family wedding this past weekend.  Unfortunately, I did not get to go because I had a huge work event.  But since I was working like a madwoman all weekend, I did not have much time to stew about the fact that I was missing all the fun.

- When the temperature in our house/outside drops below a certain degree, our cats begin to nest.  It is not uncommon to come into our bedroom to find something like this:

Or this:

Not natural feline behavior, I know.

- I ordered our Christmas cards.  Phew.  Feels good to get that done.

- My new favorite thing is baked potatoes in the crock pot.  So easy and convenient.  On nights like tonight when Mr. Snoop  is on call and I have Middle School youth group, it is a real life-saver.  All you do is wrap them in foil and set it.  Then you come home to perfect baked potatoes.  Last week I did sweet potatoes and this week I am doing the regular ones.  Try it.  You won't regret it!

- Mr. Snoop and I are leaving for Austin tomorrow for my grandma's 80th Birthday Weekend.  The weather forecast looks perfect, and I can't wait for good Tex-Mex and to sip a margarita while sitting outside.  The whole fam damily is going to The Broken Spoke Friday night.  It will be Mr. Snoop's maiden voyage to an authentic Texas dance hall.  Can't wait!

- I'm sad Carson went home on Dancing with the Stars.  While his "skills" might not have been on par, he was just so enthusiastic, entertaining, and fun to watch.  Boo.

- I guess that's all, folks!

Norton goes home

Dear Norton,

Today you are going home.  I can't really say that I will miss your continually snotty nose, especially when you get all weirdly affectionate and try to wipe it on me.  Sick.  I will miss how you enjoy sitting in front of the a/c window unit.  That was strange.  I will not miss your mean-spirited behavior towards Shammy Boy.  He just wanted to be friends.  There was no need to hiss and bat at him for two weeks.  Luckily, Big Brother Woo kept you in your place.  I will miss having a cat that weighs less than 10 pounds to manhandle, even if you hated it.  But you shouldn't have laid around like this and expected me not to attack you:

I'm only human.

Norton, you have developed so many talents during your stay at the Snoop Abode.  First of all, I bet you didn't know how excellent you are at cat yodeling before you came to stay with us.  You and Mr. Snoop have really perfected that.  Secondly, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy dancing with me as much as I enjoyed dancing with you.  You really do a remarkably can-can.  If only you would be more open-minded, I think you could really go far with your yodeling and dancing.

We really have to work on your demon eyes.
It distracts from your superior dancing technique.

TTFN, Norton.  I'll be seeing (and dancing) you soon.  After all, you only live an hour and a half away.

love,

Snoop

PS- I'm giving away your secret.  I'm pretty sure this is you in the Fresh Step ad.

Feline Drama

Mr. Snoop and I have two cats: Woo and Shammy Boy.  They are brothers and we are obsessed with them.  Personality-wise, they are basically dogs trapped in fury cat bodies.  They greet us at the door, are super affectionate, come when they are called, do tricks for food/catnip, etc.  Shammy Boy licks, which is gross.  They are also frighteningly smart: Woo can open doors and cabinets.  Shammy Boy once opened up his carrier from the inside and escaped.  On a plane.  Then he climbed onto the laps of the people seated behind us.  Needless to say, if our boys had opposable thumbs the world would be in huge trouble.

Shammy Boy has the pink nose/paws, Woo has the black nose/paws

My in-laws recently moved about an hour and a half away.  Since they are heading out of town for two weeks, their cat Norton is staying with us.  While our boys can best be described as dog-cats, Norton is more like a grouchy troll.  Don't let the cute Scottish Fold face fool you.

He arrived on Saturday and Peace On Earth it is not.  In addition to the fact that I have to share the bathroom sink with a grouchy troll cat, our boys are displaying some uncharacteristic feline instinct.  They are not pleased with The Intruder.  There have been standoffs aplenty- so much so that we had to seperate them at night.  To be fair, Norton continually antagonizes the boys even though he is seven years older and about 1/3 to 1/2 their size.  While we have enjoyed the pleasure of Norton's troll-like company and out-sized pur, I look forward to more of this when he leaves:
